Just like that my time at Red Shark Digital has come to an end. I’m actually really sad because I truly did enjoy working with everyone at the office. Not only that but the experiences I got from Red Shark were amazing. If I didn’t live so far away, I might even consider interning a second time. But anyway, let me tell you a little bit of what I did while I was here. Maybe you will feel inspired to come here too!

So, SEO, or search engine optimization, is a very important part of digital marketing. It is the art of getting Google search to like you...essentially. Which to me was one of the more interesting and fun tasks I got to do. SEO work included doing research on different websites to find which keywords our client should be targeting depending on their business in order to have a better chance of popping up on Google. I would also pick out which words they should exclude from their keywords that were not actually helping them.

Besides SEO I also got to write different blog posts for a variety of different businesses. But although there were many blogs to write, I think they were helpful because it would force me to think of new things to write about, finding different ways of wording things, and also practicing SEO in that so that people would be more likely to read them. So, in the end, it definitely made me a stronger and more fluid writer.

I also got some experience on social media which is always fun. I learned to track the progress of the different accounts Red Shark administrates with reports. So, this way not only do we see if the strategies we are implementing are working, but also the client can see it as well. Which is something that I had not done before. In fact, there were many new things I learned here that I didn’t know before. Which I know for a fact that I will be utilizing in the future.

I cannot even begin to explain how grateful I am to the people here and the experiences they have taught me. Since day one Travis and the rest of the team were really open to helping me and teaching me new things. If I didn’t understand something they would go out of their way to help me out. So it isn’t like those “horror story” internships you hear about where all you do is simply make coffee and copies for people. Red Shark gives you the opportunity to take control of what you want to learn and they allow the work that you do to speak for itself.

So for future interns, here are (a few) of my pro tips to you:

• Know where to park so you don’t get towed on the last week of class (like me!)
• Go along with Nik’s bad jokes...it’ll be over soon. Promise.
• This one is easy, but some people need to hear it - *do your work!*
• Don’t be afraid to ask questions
• Know what it is you want to learn… and
