Webflow vs. Wordpress: Making the Switch | Red Shark Digital

Recently, Redshark made the switch to start utilizing Webflow vs. WordPress. WordPress has been an industry standard for most web developers, especially when creating sites that will be utilizing a large CMS. However, over the years, the “no-code” web development services have improved in their usability and functionality. So much so that I think it’s important to consider these “no-code” solutions when deciding whether or not to use them when creating your own website.

What is Webflow?

Simply put, Webflow is a web design tool that includes CMS features and hosting. Webflow’s Designer tool allows you to visually build your website with little to no code. The Designer has a drop and drag feel to it, but allows you so much more creativity and flexibility compared to other drag and drop web builders. The Designer then translates your design into clean and production-ready code. Just like the Designer, the CMS is code-free as well. Both tools used together will allow you to create websites and structure content with ease. Webflow’s hosting is the final piece of the puzzle. Webflow uses Amazon Web Services, meaning their hosting is very reliable and very quick.

Clean and Fast Code

WordPress sites without intentional efforts can be bloated with code from plugins and other tools. This code can sometimes be relatively slow compared to sites built on Webflow. Webflow’s code is clean and fast. Try out some sites that you know have been built on Webflow and test their speeds to see if you get the same results.

Editing Made Easy

The ability to easily edit and customize sites was the big draw for me when switching to Webflow. Say you have an “About” page and you want to change the page layout in WordPress. To perform these changes, you either need to know some PHP and CSS or hope that the theme you’re using will allow you to change the structure. In contrast, an edit like that would take a few minutes of drag-and-drop adjustments when using Webflow.

Webflow’s Support System

Webflow’s support is awesome! Their support teams will respond quickly to your problems and their forums provide a lot of helpful insight. Not to mention, their “Webflow University” is a great video library that helps you with all of the basics of Webflow. The communities involved in Webflow seem to be willing to help out newbies and help you fix problems you might encounter.

Should You Make the Switch: Webflow vs. WordPress?

Webflow is a great service for those to consider when building their website. Webflow does have some downsides, but it’s all about weighing the positives and negatives when it comes to Webflow vs. WordPress. Is it the right move for you? Here is who I would recommend using Webflow:

  • People who are familiar with the basics of HTML and CSS
  • Those that want to control most things about their site
  • Those that are willing to be creative and work around Webflow’s limitations

Give Webflow a shot and see if it’s the right move for you. You may thank yourself in the end!
