I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all follow someone on Instagram to save face. I've done it before and I'm sure you have as well. Whether it be an old classmate, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend, or maybe it's that one annoying co-worker that works in the HR department, we all have those people we feel obligated to follow and would not want to endure the awkwardness of them discovering that you "unfollowed them." First off, I'm not sure why they would be so obsessed with who is following them back but that's a story for a different time. I am here to tell you though, that Instagram is finally going to save you from those awkward situations you may end up.

It's called the mute button. Coming to your Instagram very soon. The new mute feature allows you to continue to follow a user but you will never see their posts unless of course, you decide to do some late night Insta-stalking (don't double tap that photo from 2 years ago). This feature has been highly requested in the social space, with platforms such as Twitter and Facebook implementing these sometime last year. Turns out a lot of people feel obligated to follow people they aren't the biggest fan of.

Instagram is even making this feature extremely easy to use. To mute someone, all you have to do is, tap the … menu in the corner of the post. From there, you can choose whether to mute posts or mute posts and stories from an account. You can also mute posts and stories by pressing and holding on a story in your tray, or from a profile.
