My internship for Red Shark Digital went by too quick with some new lessons I learned about the professional world. Marketing is no longer just newspaper ads and billboards; there is a new dynamic around with using the internet that is constantly changing. It stops for nobody and if a company can not keep up, they lose their possibility of staying around in the long run.
When it comes to keeping a business alive, research to understand what industry they serve is a major aspect of staying competitive. Google searches can be better for a company if they have content on their site related to their industry. Researching, creating content, and blogging I never realized we so helpful to a company. This I believe will help me in my future endeavors in business and technical communication.
I also learned when it comes to running a business, there will be days where you have to make some hard decisions. For future interns, I recommend learning as much as you can from the people around you because there are some gems of lessons to be understood.
When it comes to my time interning at Red Shark Digital, I have found that one can work with quite the colorful cast. Great people to work with for generating story ideas, probably not the best place for relationship advice. Working here, one question you will hear every day is “what’s for lunch?”
A secret perk to working for Red Shark is learning about all the best places to eat in Greenville, which can be surprising. I will miss the coffee and snacks available at the office because there were many-a-times I forgot to eat breakfast at home. I may never be able to enjoy Keurig-style, Dunkin-Donuts style coffee the way I did at Red Shark ever again… but all good things come to an end.
So that concludes my Fall 2018 semester internship with Red Shark Digital, a local marketing company based in the college town of Greenville, North Carolina. It is not surprising that the majority of interns and employees were churned out by East Carolina University. This internship came to me in my Senior year semester prior to graduation, and my world is changing. Learning the things I did, meeting the people I met, and experiencing what I have has helped me for the better as I continue with my career and life. This is only the tip of the iceberg for me, there are so many more goals and experiences I wish to accomplish and this internship fulfilled my goal of having one in college.
Keep on swimming, keep learning, and make something worthwhile out of your time wherever you may be, because there may be something bigger in your life around the corner.
