Over the course of the last four months, I was given the opportunity to intern for a Digital Marketing agency located in Greenville, North Carolina called Red Shark Digital. Just a few short months ago when I began this experience I was more than ecstatic to begin learning everyday marketing material in a real-world setting compared to a classroom setting. However, I couldn’t help but feel at least a little nervous to be walking into something so new.
Walking into this internship I knew marketing was something I wanted to pursue further. However, the whole idea of digital marketing was extremely new to me. When I initially began college, I did not have a specific career path set in mind, I truly had no idea what I wanted to do in the future or what I saw myself doing once I graduated. Although, last December, I was asked to help a friend begin branding her own local boutique, and that was all it took. It gave me the opportunity to see the surface of what the field of digital marketing entailed, and that was enough for me to make up my mind. After changing my major a total of six different times I hoped digital marketing would be my last saving grace and thankfully it was, with the help of Red Shark of course.
Red Shark Digital specializes in SEO, web development, advertising, branding and so much more. I was able to experience first-hand how digital marketing agencies work and interact so closely with their customers. Straight away Red Shark made it clear to us that this was a learning experience, they made us feel comfortable enough to freely ask questions and speak our concerns based on topics we were unfamiliar with. Working in a close-knit office was extremely beneficial, it allowed us as interns to be able to work on multiple different tasks at a time, compared to solely sticking to one form of digital marketing.
One of my favorite tasks while interning here at Red Shark Digital would be creating social media market plans and building content for websites. Creating social media marketing plans meant analyzing a company’s social media strategy. We would see which posts were generating the highest web traffic and which posts did not necessarily perform as well as others. Judging by this information, we were able to organize their social media posts for the following month in order to continuously promote their business. It made me push myself to see social media posts from a different perspective by truly thinking like a potential customer. I also really enjoyed building content for websites, which means transferring all the company’s information into a new site. Although it is a long and tedious process, it is undoubtedly worth it, in the end, seeing the new product and knowing you were a part of that creation. Through creating social media market plans and building content it didn’t just feel like a regular task, but it felt as if we were helping these companies come alive from a digital standpoint.
This internship ended up being so much more than just an internship, I was presented with numerous real-world opportunities all while working with the best group of people. Red Shark Digital works tirelessly to create the best of the best products to present their clients with all while maintaining a comfortable and fun atmosphere. It is evident that everyone here is extraordinarily passionate about their job and what they do, and I believe that is why they make it so easy for anyone to fit in. Red Shark Digital has opened so many doors for me, and I am more than grateful for the experience and the many laughs along the way.
